Under the Rose

The Latin phrase sub rosa means 'under the rose' and is used in English to denote secrecy or confidentiality. The rose as a symbol of secrecy has an ancient history. In the council chambers of Henry VIII’s palaces a stylised Tudor rose covered the ceiling of the private chamber where confidential decisions of state were made. The rose is now used by many nations as the badge of intelligence and security.
